BodyVox was formed in 1997 by choreographers Jamey Hampton and Ashley Roland. Hampton and Roland have been honing the cutting edge of contemporary dance for over two decades. Based in Portland, Oregon, BodyVox is a vehicle for their ongoing explorations in movement theater. Working with a deeply committed and inspired group of dance artists, their work is characterized by a bold athleticism and inherent theatricality. Their movement surges from a source informed by years of cross-training imbued with a fresh curiosity and a fascination with the endless possibilities of the human body in motion. The BodyVox theater is a total one, constructed of movement, color, shape and sound. Their dance is fueled by emotional content, yet they revel in the simple beauty of dynamic movement.
