Oregon State Marine Board
The Oregon State Marine Board is Oregon's recreational boating agency dedicated to the safety, education and enjoyment of Oregon's boaters.
The Marine Board had a problem - how to connect Oregon boaters with the 900+ boating facilities around the state? Until recently, this information was kept only in hard copy publications produced by the Marine Board. This made the information difficult to update in a timely manner and not easily accessible to Oregon boaters. Working closely with the Marine Board, AMAZING! developed the Online Facilities Boating Guide for the public, while simultaneously creating a database of facility information for the internal use by the Agency.
The biggest achievement of this site was developing a user-friendly interface that allows visitors to quickly find facilities to meet their needs. While many clients believe that the technical issues related to building Web sites are the hardest, the reality is that "user needs" are often more difficult. It is critical that visitors find the final site easy to understand and navigate, that it provide immediate information. The Web site must also be accessible to those with varying levels of hardware, computer ability, and physical needs.
Behind the scenes on the site is a custom dynamic data content management system that allows the Marine Board staff to easily make changes to almost all items viewed by the public. Because of AMAZING!'s strong prior relationship with the Oregon State Parks site and staff, we were able to integrate the Marine Board data with the State Parks site information. When a visitor is viewing the Marine Board page for an individual boating facility, the page includes links to nearby State Parks. If the facility is inside a State Park, the page includes information on that park as well.
This site was built with Macromedia ColdFusion, MS SQL Server, and Active Server Pages (ASP).
